The 2010 Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) will be held at the esteemed Royal Randwick racecourse on Saturday February 13 as part of the Royal Sovereign Stakes Day.
Worth a lucrative $150 000 the set weights event for three-year-old fillies is programmed as the first of eight great races at the meeting. Other highlight events scheduled to run include the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes, Group 2 Breeders Classic and the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes all run over 1200m.
One filly gearing up for prestigious Group 2 sprint is the Gillian Heinrich-trained Sweepstaking. The daughter of Not A Single Doubt has blitzed four of her seven career starts and performed sensationally in her latest barrier trail at Rosehill winning over 900m.
A good performance in the Light Fingers Stakes next Saturday will see Sweepstaking, stablemate of this year’s Gold Coast Magic Millions Classic winner Military Rose, progress on to the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) as a preparatory run leading up to the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) in March.
Top Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse is expected to nominate her bay filly More Joyous for the Light Fingers Stakes after a good third place at trial on January 29.
Daughter of More Than Ready, More Joyous has already amassed over $550 000 in stakes following four career wins including an impressive win in last spring’s Flight Stakes.
11:00am on Monday February 8 is the cut off for all nominations for the 2010 Light Fingers Stakes with the final field of acceptances announced on Thursday February 11.
