Light Fingers Stakes 2011 Nominations

February 7th, 2011

Nominations for the 2011 Light Fingers Stakes, set to run as the headline race at Randwick Racecourse this Saturday February 12, have been released with 17 runners vying for a spot in the final field.

Leading the list of three-year-old fillies heading towards the $200,000 Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) is the Gai Waterhouse-trained More Strawberries.

Waterhouse took out the Light Fingers Stakes with star mare More Joyous last year and is in a fine position to claim back-to-back success with her promising More Than Ready three-year-old More Strawberries.

First-up for the season, More Strawberries enjoyed a stunning spring that included wins in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1400m) and the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1500m).

More Strawberries also ran a close second in the Group 1 Coolmore Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick in October and will get her chance to turn the tables on the filly that got the better of her, Secret Admirer, on Saturday.

Secret Admirer is also resuming in the Light Fingers Stakes and will start at the top of the odds along with More Strawberries after the Grahame Begg-trained Dubawi filly took out the Flight Stakes at just her fourth career start.

Flight Stakes third placegetter, Lonhro filly Parables, is also first-up in the Light Fingers and will be set on defeating More Strawberries who she ran second behind in both the Furious Stakes and Tea Rose last season.

The 2011 Light Fingers Stakes final field and barriers will be released on Wednesday and published here so bookmark this site.
