Three-year-old Stay With Me stamped herself as a serious racehorse through a standout Spring Carnival campaign, and is reportedly on track for a competitive return in the 2016 Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 13th.
Posting an impressive three wins and one minor through only seven competitive starts so far, Stay With Me returned to racing in spring for a maiden race win in a Pakenham minor over 1200m in late August before making a successful transition to black type racing in taking out the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) a fortnight later.
Unlucky to be blocked for a run and sixth in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) on September 26th, the Street Cry filly responded in the best way possible with a big run for success in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on October 10th.
Having returned to the paddock following a credible performance for sixth in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) on October 31st, co-trainer Tom Dabernig told Racing Ahead the team has been thrilled with the benefit taken by the filly in her time away from competition and believes the 2016 Light Fingers Stakes figures as an ideal first point of call this time.
“She definitely hasn’t gone backwards,” Dabernig said.
“I don’t know if I am looking at her through rose coloured glasses, but to my eye she is flying.
“Stay With Me is in great order and she is actually up in Sydney at the moment.
“She will have a trial there tomorrow and she will probably kick-off in the Light Fingers.
“It is possible she will run in the Surround and we will judge it after that.
“We might even consider the Coolmore for fillies and mares.”
Stay With Me debuted to racing for a close second behind Group 1 winner Pasadena Girl in the Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m); progressing to fifth in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) before being returned to the paddock with a view towards spring.
