Thirteen runners have been included in nominations for Saturday’s 2016 Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Autumn Carnival’s most exciting three-year-old fillies.
Gai Waterhouse has been thrilled with the benefit taken by Harlem River in her time away from racing and has included the filly in 2016 Light Fingers Stakes nominations.
Stamping her claims as one to watch upon debuting to racing in late autumn last year, Harlem River ran second in each Listed Woodlands Stakes (1000m) and Listed Lancaster Stakes (1200m) before taking out the Listed Tattersall’s Stakes (1400m) on June 20th.
Returning in spring for third in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) on October 10th, the Fastnet Rock filly was unable to match the late pace when sixth in the Listed Crockett Stakes (1200m) last time out on October 24th.
John Thompson unearthed a potential staying star in Honesta during the recent Spring Carnival and has included the filly for a competitive return in 2016 Light Fingers Stakes nominations.
Producing a number of credible performances north of the border in Queensland, Honesta returned to Sydney for second in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) before displaying an impressive turn of foot to again finish second behind Speak Fondly in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) on October 3rd.
Progressing once more to second in the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes (2000m), the Monaco Consul filly has not been seen at the races since finishing second to Jameka in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) in early November.
Having performed well amongst notable company in a strong Randwick barrier trial on January 29th, Honesta appears primed for a successful return on Saturday.
Look To The Stars was unable to make anything of a short and disappointing Spring Carnival campaign but has been transferred to the care of David Vandyke for her Autumn Carnival campaign, beginning in Saturday’s Light Fingers Stakes.
Resuming last winter for fourth in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Stakes (1200m) on April 25th, the I Am Invincible filly failed to make any impact when tenth in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) but responded in the best way possible with success in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) on May 23rd.
Returning to the paddock after placing third in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m), Look To The Stars finished ninth in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) and tenth in the Listed Reginald Allen Quality (1400m) in spring and was promptly returned to the paddock.
The 2016 Light Fingers Stakes final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
