Gerald Ryan has been thrilled with the condition of Perignon and is confident the filly is forward enough for success first-up in Saturday’s 2016 Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick.
Perignon has been a strong and consistent performer for Ryan since first appearing on course competitively in late 2014; posting a credible one win and three minors through only eight career starts so far.
Conceding the nominations list for the 2016 Light Fingers Stakes is full of talent, Ryan told AAP he could not be more pleased with the returning condition of the Snitzel filly and is confident she is up to the mark first-up.
“Speak Fondly might not be in the Light Fingers but it still looks like being a very strong race,” Ryan said.
“The Snowdens filly Kangarilla Joy is very good and Stay With Me (Thousand Guineas champion) is flying.
“But Perignon has come back much stronger and I’m really happy with her so I’ll weigh things up.
Running fourth in the Wyong Magic Millions 2.y.o Classic (1100m) on debut, Perignon continued to impress when taking out the TAB Rewards Plate (1200m) ahead of several notable opponent in December 2014 before running an impressive fifth in the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2.y.o Guineas (1200m) on January 10th.
Unable to match the late pace when seventh in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) on March 7th, Perignon was returned to the paddock after placing second behind Speak Fondly in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) the following week.
Resuming in spring for second in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m), Perignon progressed to fifth in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) before ending her campaign with an impressive performance for third in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) on October 3rd.
The 2016 Light Fingers Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
