Only eight three-year-old fillies have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2016 Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Autumn Carnival’s most exciting racing prospects.
Stay With Me laid a great account for herself through the recent Spring Carnival but has been charged with overcoming the outside barrier 8 first-up in the 2016 Light Fingers Stakes.
A daughter of notable sire Street Cry and Group 1 winning mare Miss Finland, Stay With Me broke through for a maiden race win in the APM Group 3.y.o Maiden Plate (1200m) upon resuming in spring before taking out the key form-indicating Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) a fortnight later.
Failing to fire when sixth in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) on September 26th, Stay With Me responded in the best way possible when charging home to post a dominant two length win in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m).
Returning to the paddock after running a credible sixth amongst open company in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) on Derby Day, Stay With Me is sure to receive a gem of a ride by leading hoop Kerrin McEvoy.
Perignon has been a strong and consistent performer for Gerald Ryan through her short racing career so far and will leave from barrier 7 in the 2016 Light Fingers Stakes.
Perignon ran second in the Wyong Magic Millions 2.y.o Classic (1100m) on debut in late 2014; progressing to success in the TAB Rewards Plate (1200m) before placing a credible fifth in the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2.y.o Guineas (1200m) in early January 2015.
Ending her autumn campaign second in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m), the Snitzel filly resumed in spring for second in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) before finishing fifth in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and an impressive third in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) on October.
Perignon has trialled well in the lead-up to the Light Fingers Stakes and will be partnered by in-form hoop Tim Clark.
Kangarilla Joy has returned to racing in great form this time and will be tough to beat in the Light Fingers Stakes with standout hoop Hugh Bowman aboard.
Debuting to racing in spring for an impressive win in the Pro-Ride Maiden Handicap (1100m) on August 5th, the Lonhro filly was returned to the paddock after failing to beat a single runner home in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) on August 22nd.
Trialling well in the lead-up to her competitive return this time, Kangarilla Joy is yet to taste anything but success having taken out each of the Schweppes BM68 (1100m) and TAB Rewards BM78 (1100m).
